Edward J. Marshall has been assisting clients to obtain and enforce patent rights for over 10 years. He earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and his Law degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and is a seven-year veteran of the United States Air Force. Edward’s technical experience is wide ranging and varied. In the Air Force, Edward troubleshot and repaired communication, command and control, security, and power generation systems for ICBM and cruise missiles. He also has experience working with analog audio amplifier circuits, in the context of medical hearing aids, and using advanced formation evaluation tools such as magnetic resonance imaging, array induction, sonic, neutron, and gamma ray measurement tools to map hydrocarbons in oil and gas wells. Edward has prepared and prosecuted over 150 patent applications, and counseled individual inventors and companies on strategies for protecting their inventions. He has also represented clients in various patent infringement, trade secret, and contract disputes involving various technologies. His broad technical background and legal experience form the foundation that allows Edward to provide his clients with practical, business-minded solutions to their intellectual property problems. Representative Cases Counseled a medical imaging company regarding response to patent enforcement letter from a patent holding company. Defended a consumer electronics company in a patent infringement suit involving low-power consumer radio transmitters. Defended an original equipment manufacturer in a patent infringement suit involving smart card, secure payment, and data transfer technologies. Defended a telecommunications company in a patent infringement suit related to location based services in wireless telephone systems. Defended a mid-size company in a complex trade secret case related to technology used in data recovery and forensics. Prepared and prosecuted patents in a variety of technology areas, including processor architecture, electronic circuits, microprocessor fabrication, computer hardware and software, Internet business methods and oilfield technology.
